clutch noise isnt cured by heavier springs. its a bit complicated but clutch rattles are usually caused by the transmission shock absorber springs in the back of the clutch basket wearing and rattling in the back of the basket. this itself is then exagertated if the carbs are out of balance, because the juddering of all 4 cylinders trying to run at slightly different speets causes the transmission to unload and load up with every revolution, its usually silenced by pulling thee clutch in. having said that, its not a huge problem, baskets can be rebuilt and reinforced for not a lot of money. if the clutch seems heavy, it may have had stiffer springs fitted but thats more likely because it was slipping.
