That came on quite quickly, within 500 miles. Only changed the stator last week. Pulled apart, cleaned and sprayed, should be good for a very long while now. . .
but You know that this doesnt cure anything? as blix wrote - it wasnt going to the battery from light switch, but back to the reg/rec... so in the end - it's just about 1 meter less of copper wire - so minimum resistance. it's marginal in the system :)

its not the resistance in the wire that cooks the generator. when the lights are off, the third phase of the generator is disconnected, meaning that all the charging of the battery is being done by just two phases, so they are working extra hard and its always one or both of these phases that dies. turning the lights on reconnects this phase and so all three are then charging the battery. removing the loop of wire isnt done to remove the resistance from it and any of its connections, its done to make that phase of the generator work all the time like the other two, so that all three phases going to the reg rec are working equally and nothing is getting overloaded in any way or running imballanced.

It's true.. obviously. But are You allowed to run the bike without lights on where You live? if not - it doesn't cure anything in this generaly old electric wiring - as I wrote.

If You are allowed to run without low beam - then it's a good mod.

Yep we are allowed to run without lights on here, Which is why reg recs burn out.
Modern bikes have the headlamps hard wired on like the rest of the world.
