Popup running (sort of) project for sale

Post by prothed » Sun Apr 07, 2019 3:36 pm

Katana 750 Pop up Project.

Posting this in case anyone is interested before putting it on ebay.

This is a project, no two ways about that. I got it from a friend who got it from a bloke who got it from a bloke who had it standing for years... The usual story.
It has passed though the hands of some butchers and one of them unfortunately had a large tin of black paint and thought it would look much better than Suzuki pearl white.
The electrical system looks like someone has cut loads of wires, randomly twisted them back together and wrapped them in sticky tape.

However - the major bits are there and I put some clean petrol in, put the jump leads on, and it started.
One of the exhaust header gaskets is blowing so it sounds terrible and I guess the carbs are gunked up, but it runs!

Bad and good(ish) bits -
The tank has a shallow dent on top, but doesn't leak. Tap seems ok.
The fork legs are very good, no corrosion at all.
The headlight motor is ok (tested it) but the control box doesn't work (easy fix...)
The fairing parts are generally cracked/repairable.
Ignition switch missing.
Lights, indicators, horn seem to work.

Startup video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcwXA7L88SU

I have the V5 in my name. I've checked the NICB database and it does not show up as stolen or scrapped.

Price? I would put it up for £500 and hope that ebay fever sweeps the nation. If I put 'barn find' in the title then that should add on a bit. But if any members are interested then talk to me.

I'm away over Easter so I was aiming to eBay it (and deal with the usual bizarre / nonsensical bidders) after then...

I mentioned it to a German chap, Torsten, who tried to buy jmac's in Denmark for a flight ticket home!!
Really he wants the body kit to put on an 1100 efe......but then didn't send him the link because I feel I would be condemning it  Plus I think he'll not wish to complement your renumuration appeal :ugeek:

However there are others in Germany who would interested on their forum.....or Facebook katana buy and sell....If you can cope with the silly know it all( not at all) comments from the yanks and Aussies ..!

But they do seem to convince people that higher prices are the norm..... ;)

Very reasonable....considering the honest write up. Well done.....at that I believe it won't be broken for bits.

No - the buyer says he will restore it, so you should be getting a new member from somewhere near Cardiff.
