Re: Mikuni VM33 smoothbores
Think a more 'standard' 1100 be better by dropping a unit in the 750, or going for something less tuned up - bit much for me TBH, can't relax on the thing for a moment. Be a bloody shame to alter it backwards as its had all the mods - it will have to go, shame but hey ho.... :| Had definitely consid...

Re: Mikuni VM33 smoothbores
There's enough there still for a good while -Its got me thinking though - 81' 1100 kat was my last bike before Kids arrived, sold it in a moment of misdirected belief that normal 'responsible dad types' don't ride bikes -twat thinking. Last year got a 750sz which i did up while having my leg rebuilt...

Re: Mikuni VM33 smoothbores
Good thought, could rig them up to a box easily enough, there's always a way (cut, paste, paint). Found a set on eB, 1990 off a 750 Gixxer, 38's, if sub £200 is reasonable? Seems pricey need to start saving the pennies, but probably low for a set which would probably suggest needing a complete rebui...

Re: Mikuni VM33 smoothbores
Would the Kat Airbox fit? Be less prone to being temperamental in wet conditions, GSX-R carbs likely to be bit bigger at the induction end would have thought.

Re: Mikuni VM33 smoothbores
I read that the early GSX carbs are good -but wear on the needle collars unevenly, and quickly -stonking power from all accounts -36mm's usable as well? Swopping them would be the best option for 'playtime' -all comes down to getting hold of some, right jetting ( running Yoshi cams) and down to how ...

Re: Mikuni VM33 smoothbores
I'll look on old school -not familiar with it, website would it be? Bell mouths -with you, would howl with the intake roar, and breathing be a lot easier -didn't think about fuel, good point, but obviously less strain, more economy -so I can see that. Went to a Funeral in East Sussex on Wednesday, l...

Mikuni VM33 smoothbores
Mikuni-VM33's.jpg 750sz sorted and running sweetly thanks for all help, appreciated -Unfortunately its stablemate, 1100 Kat is playing up at low revs, particularly in traffic -pulling off lights, stalling occasionally -methinks likely down to needle/jetting wear -Old set of VM33's, possibly not the...
