The nativity

Mary, being a typical house proud type, gives Joseph his orders "Joseph, Get this place squared up a bit. Grab that rake and shift all that shite down the far end. Get some of those straw bales round the crib and put some blankets over them for the guests to sit on". "Chop chop, guests will be arriv...

Re: do reg/rectifiers do get hot in use?

I got the 'switch in an extra phase to power the lights' idea but I didn't realise it had an adverse effect. In that case, a bit of rewiring is called for.

Re: do reg/rectifiers do get hot in use?

Why's that then? Is it too much power going through the switch contacts. My GS850 was wired the same and that didn't suffer at all.

Re: 650 poor/not running

I had a quick check of the compression. I didn't check all the cylinders, didn't have to. Pot 1 is hardly any compression so it's a head off jobbie. The compression didn't improve with oil down the bore so it looks like a valve problem. Major pain in the A but at least I know where to look.

Re: 650 poor/not running.

I doubt if the CDI is playing up because there's loads of sparks. There's no corroded bolts - all new stainless. I'll make sure it's earthed properly becwuse I painted all those plates under the seat. I may need to put an extra earth to the cdi.

Re: 650 poor/not running

I never could tell if CDI works just by looking at it.

Re: 650 poor/not running

1. Ain't got a known good one.
2. It seems to spark OK
3. Rechecking the connections isn't a bad idea.

Re: 650 poor/not running

Ignition systems are in two pairs; 1 and 4, 2 and 3. Since it's 3 and 4 that don't work, I can rule out an ignition fault, unless it's a duff spark plug or HT cap. It's highly unlikely that both plugs/HT caps fail at the same time, which is why I think it's fuel related.
